Associated Musicians of Greater New York
(American Federation of Musicians - Local 802)
This branch of the national union is dedicated to the interests of New York-area musicians. Through organizing, collective bargaining, and political action, the union aims to ensure that its members are treated fairly.

My membership in this union does not preclude my accepting non-union work; indeed, I do take positions that are not under union contract. However, I prefer that, when possible, my employers abide by the union's guidelines.
Musical Writers' Playground The Musical Writers' Playground is a group of about 20 people who meet biweekly to present and discuss scenes from their new musicals. Once a year, the group presents half-hour excerpts of shows created by its members.
Dramatists' Guild of America The Dramatists' Guild is an association of theatre authors. Membership allows access to various resources, such as a national directory of theatres, agents, and producers. It also allows access to standard contracts and copyright information.
BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop The BMI workshop is a program for musical-theatre composers, lyricists, and librettists. The first year involves specific song assignments and fosters meetings that may result in long-term collaborations. Subsequent years involve work on full-scale musicals. I was a member from 1996 to 2002.
